Voyageur
Challenge
Why
bother to read the want ads to find your dream job? We have just the job for
you. How would you like to be a fur trader? How would you like to earn a fortune
trading for furs with Native American Tribes?
Our
voyager challenge allows school children (grades 4 - 8) to learn about the Fur
Trade Era (circa 1700). Students will test their skills as voyageurs and fur
traders. Each student will take a written test as attempting to perform some of
the duties required of a voyageur. Each student will be given a contract to
sign. This contract is an exact copy of an actual contract signed by voyageurs
and is printed on parchment paper. You can have the contract printed in either
English or French. The contract is the student's to keep.
This
program mixes hands-on performance with the application of critical thinking
skills and intuitive logic to solve actual situations faced by voyageurs and fur
traders. It is a natural follow-up to our Native American Traveling Museum
program.
When
you request this program we send you a packet of information to help prepare the
students. This will allow them to familiarize themselves with the subject matter
